Looking for free activities in Frankfort? Here’s a few of our favorites. These Frankfort venues offer youth and family programming and are open to the public.

Josephine Sculpture Park

Explore nearly 70 works of art throughout 40 acres of native meadows and newly forested areas. Enjoy picnic areas, native plants, wildlife habitat and a rotating exhibit of contemporary art that is fun for the entire family. The best part? The Park is FREE to visit, sunrise to sunset every day of the year. Josephine Sculpture Park also accepts Yes Cards for their paid programs and events. Visit their website to learn more.


Paul Sawyier Public Library

Located in downtown Frankfort, the library offers awesome programming for all ages!


Cove Springs Park

Cove Springs has hiking trails, waterfalls and plenty of space to move. It’s free and open daily.


Frankfort Public Art Tour

Walk around downtown and find public art on every corner. Use the Visit Frankfort map to find them or explore on your own.


Capital City Museum

The Capital City Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There’s no admission fee. Exhibits cover a variety of Frankfort history and fun.


Daniel Boone’s Grave

It may seem odd to visit a cemetery, but this is a historic spot! The Frankfort Cemetery overlooks the Kentucky River and the Kentucky State Capitol.


Switzer Covered Bridge

If you need to get outside and explore, check out Frankfort’s covered bridge. Built by George Hockersmith c.1855, this historic bridge is 120 ft. long, 11 ft. wide, and of Howe truss design.  Each entrance has a saw tooth edge. Rebuilt in 1998, the bridge is on the National Historic Register. Hours are dawn to dusk.


Leslie Morris Park on Fort Hill

Leslie Morris Park on Fort Hill features two Civil War earthen forts, the Sullivan House visitor / interpretive center, the Gippy Graham picnic pavilion, a scenic downtown Frankfort overlook and several hiking trails, paved and natural single track surface.
